The very impressive and oversized vibrant earthenware model of a dog, possibly an Italian greyhound, the wonderfully rendered slender body painted and glazed in amber with a brown linked collar with glass eyes and sitting alert to a rope twisted rectangular cushion base, having an impressed mark to the underside stamped ‘Made in Italy’ and surviving from mid-century Italy.

The hound is presented in very good overall condition, with wear commensurate with age to the glaze and paintwork; please view the photographs for a full visual reference. There is attractive crazing to glaze and the glaze is chipped slightly to one ear.

Hand executed by a talented Italian artist, models of this type were made in Italy by realist ceramicists in the 1960s and 70s, with some coming out of studios such as Lenci.

The largest example we have seen to date and as such proves a real show stopper for any porch or entrance hall.
