An Attractive Early 20thC Bakelite & Brass Articulated Scallop Shell Formed Desk Lamp c.1915-25

SOLD

Origin: English
Period: Edwardian/Art Deco
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1915-25
Height: 32” (in vertical position with shade)
Base Diameter: 6”

The rather unusual articulated desk lamp having a scalloped shell shade in pressed metal, with the original Bakelite fittings, to an operational articulated coiled stem to a patinated brass weighted base, survives from the first quarter of twentieth century England.

The condition of the lamp is good with a welcome patina to the brass and metal. We have had her fully re-wired so she is now working perfectly and has been PAT tested. None of the parts are replacements aside from the cording and plug. The articulation works perfectly and holds steady in all positions. NB: the shell shade does get hot when the lamp is on so care is needed when adjusting, only adjust using the stem.

This lamp shows the transitional phase of the Edwardian period what with the brass turned base, to that of the Art Deco with the shell shaped shade, and its ability to be articulated.

A very useful and attractive period lamp that would work in any interior setting.
