The wonderfully evocative leather dog collar, being bronze studded and spiked in a brutalist type manner, to a brass name plaque for Edward P. Clanton with canted corners, the whole surviving from the first half of the nineteenth century and in totally original condition.

The collar is in beautifully un-meddled with condition with no abrasive cleaning. There is a lovely verdigris to the bronze and brass. A section of the fastening is lacking and the plaque has un-attached at one corner.

Antique dog collars are highly collectable. Coveted for their decorative qualities, as curios or objets d’art, those collars inscribed with witty mottos or with an interesting owner’s name or address are especially prized. This collar would have been for a small to medium sized breed.

A superbly atmospheric object for a cherished hound.
