A cute little mohair plush golden bear, with moving arms and legs, and a detachable head. Pulling his head off reveals a cut glass perfume bottle, complete with original stopper. Schuco was the trade name for Schreyer & Co, a German toy company founded in 1912 in Nuremburg.
Famous for its tinplate toys, Schuco ceased production during the 1914-1918 war, but afterwards began making teddy bears, with a Yes/No bear, reputedly first seen at the Leipzig toy fair in 1921.In 1927 the Compact bears were created, designed for ladies, and small enough to fit in their handbags. Compact Bears either contained a mirror, compact, lipstick and powder puff, a perfume bottle or a manicure set.
Increasingly difficult to find in such fine condition.
