Doe & Hope X Hannah Matthews

Doe & Hope are delighted to announce an ongoing collaboration with Hannah Matthews, Taxidermist, which will consist of an exclusive line of pieces, each being an unmistakable blend of both James’ and Hannah’s distinctive imaginations and skillsets. Each piece will be an eternally unique, irreproducible edition of one.

Hannah Matthews graduated in 2012 from Winchester School of Art with a BA in Fine Art. Initially pursuing a pathway in painting, her practice evolved into an interdisciplinary way of working and after graduating she began dedicating her attention to taxidermy. She has since created work appearing in film, visual arts exhibits and for collectors globally. Combining traditional techniques with contemporary vision, her works are characterised by a sense of naturalistic wonder and playful subversion. These pieces in particular toy with the elasticity of a moment and celebrate preservation as a whole. As one of few taxidermists living and working in the city of London for the past ten years, the interaction between the human and animal world is at its most potent. Hannah now divides her time between London and the South coast.

James Gooch created Doe & Hope in 2009, and with a BA in Film and an in-depth knowledge of antiques and fine art, he brings an unmistakable and idiosyncratic aesthetic to the decorative arts world, which is now instantly recognised globally. He has had a concession in Liberty of London, holds an extensive client list to include many house-hold names and productions and is a proud member of LAPADA whilst also regularly appearing on BBC television.

This collaboration sees a suspension of the laws of time, and nature being brought inside, to a space that flirts with the supernatural. Designed for those observers of the life less ordinary.
