Printed in yellow, brown, and red tones, depicting a lady (probably the important Luminist artist Anna De Weert) standing on a path, wearing a cloak and bonnet, gazing at a figure of Christ on a Cross attached to a tree trunk, with a line of trees and the spires of Ghent in silhouette on the horizon.
The splendidly designed text reads “Cercle artistique et litteraire rempart St Jean, 12, Gand, Exposition d'oeuvres d'art du 15 au 26 Janvier 1899. Mme. Anna Deweert. Mrs Cs Doudelet, Fr Doudelet, Fr Marechal, Cs Tremerie”. (Essentially giving the name of the Ghent Artistic and Literary Circle, the address and date of the exhibition, and a list of contributing artists).
The poster bears the artist's monogram “AdW” in the lower left corner, and the imprint “Lith. Aug. Bernard, Liege” in the lower right corner. In the lower left corner are also two imprimatur stamps, overstamped in ink, which are essentially permissions granted for the poster to be printed.
The poster is in very good condition, there is one short closed tear at the upper margin, and a small square of the blank margin has been replaced in the lower right corner. It is mounted and framed and glazed in a quality aluminium frame, and is ready to hang. An alluring, symbolic, and engaging piece of period design, created at a liberal and exciting time in the development of the Belgian avant garde.
