Hand Knotted 100% Wool Pile.
Length: 190cms / 6.2 feet
Width: 130cms / 4.2 feet
Beautifully faded, the Heriz now in muted tones of rose, off white and eggplant, having a central medallion flanked by tribal design. The overall manner is naive in style with X-shaped motifs forming the outer border. Some of the pile is thinning in areas but the overall effect is pleasing to those who favour antique pieces.
Woven in the Heriz district located 40 miles west of Tabriz in the north-west of Iran, these rugs are famed for their hardwearing and durable qualities. Couple this with the fact that a Heriz, more than most rugs, improves dramatically with age (due to their initial hard wearing qualities), and for this very reason antique Heriz rugs such as this are highly sought after.
This is a splendid and well-traveled antique piece, and one wonders of the thousands of folk who have trodden upon it.
