A Handsome Mid-Victorian Stained Pine Chest of Drawers c.1860-70

SOLD
Origin: English
Period: Mid / Late Nineteenth Century
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1860-70
Width: 35.5 inches
Height: 38 inches
Depth: 17.5 inches (including handles)

The stained pine carcass with plinth top above two short and three long graduated drawers, having the original ebonised knob handles, standing on turned bulbous peg feet survives in original condition from the mid Victorian period.

The chest shows heaps of attractive wear and tear with scuffing commensurate with its age, with the original stain now worn through in places whilst the drawers all run fairly smoothly and the carcass and feet are structurally sound. The carcass base on one of the long drawers has a missing piece but it is not visible nor does it appear to affect the chests usability. The piece has suffered at some stage from a bit of damp, we have thoroughly dried her out and treated her and she is now clean and ready to go though she is not for those who like their antiques in mint condition but rather those that tell a story.

We do like chests like this, it improves with every knock, every clattering, every coffee cup.
