The stained pine carcass with rounded rectangular top above four short and five long graduated drawers, the top drawers compartmentalised, having the original ebonised knob handles, standing on a plinth base survives in original condition from the mid Victorian period.
The chest shows some rather attractive wear and tear with scuffing commensurate with its age, the drawers all running smoothly and the carcass structurally sound. The top four drawers have keyholes and locks but no key (we could provide one on request).
Luminously evocative, this is a very desirable chest indeed because of its dreamy combination of generous size, untouched appearance, unquestionable originality and quirky abnormality.
