Doe & Hope Pitch up at Lorfords...
We are delighted to announce our arrival to our permanent space at Lorfords in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, deep in the beautiful Cotswolds.
Our stand is rather long and narrow which enables us to display a good array of items, especially those of wall mounted variety.
We have painstakingly applied and distressed Georgian design wallpaper to the wall panels of our space. The paper, is of George III period design and is known as 'Bedford Stripe'; the Bedford Stripe wallpaper was found on the first floor of a house on the west side of Bloomsbury Square in London and was probably in either a parlour or a Bedroom. The design (c.1780/90) was probably inspired (as was quite common) by the work of the Huguenot silk weavers working in Spitalfields at that time. The original fragment was in a sad state having been overpainted but there was just enough visible to obtain the fairly small pattern repeat.
We then had the paper duly distressed and decayed down, a la Satis House, by some superb film set decorators of whom we employed through our contacts in the TV and film industries. They also distressed the floor so that the entire space is in keeping with a certain, faded glory.
We are delighted with the end result and we are confident you won't visit a more original space to browse and buy antiques. Plan a visit here... or you can read all about Lorfords via their website here.
The images below show the journey we made in setting up our stand at Lorfords. We've also a small short film too, see our film page here.
