The good quality stained beech and grained sofa or settee of gondola form, having a beautifully shaped back above out scrolled arm supports with floral rosettes, to waved and channelled frames, on five cabriole legs, the whole possibly adapted from a larger sofa or settee, upholstered in an ivory sand damask fabric and surviving from nineteenth century Italy.

The sofa is in sturdy condition with no losses to the carved elements, only gentle wear and very small chipping to the feet. There is a little movement to the arms and back but nothing of concern. The upholstery is good quality and useable and clean enough, though we are able to re-upholster in any fabric of your choosing at cost price, please enquire if this suits.

Reminiscent of eighteenth-century Venetian gondolas, this shape was most popular in the early nineteenth century, and then revived later.

Wonderfully sculptural, a piece that elegantly slides into any interior lucky enough to bear it.
