Expertly carved, each bangle is fashioned into bobbins on the outer rim and gadrooned to the inner. The ivory is well patinated and there are no cracks or chips to note.

The booming economy in the 1920s allowed for liberal use of the more expensive materials, such as diamonds, onyx and ivory, as we see here, in jewelry. As a rule, in the 20th century, ivory was superseded by synthetic ivory; although true ivory was highly popular in the Art Deco period, as echoed here. From the 1950s the availability of the material was severely curtailed by attempts to protect the African elephant.

Crafted in and around the time of Art Deco, here we have a good quality pair of bangles that are eye-catching, slight and wonderfully tactile, making them ever so delicately proportioned, suitable for the most elegant of wrists.
