A Charming Group of Four Clockwork Toys to Include a Japanese Camel, Elephant, Bear & British Prince Charming

SOLD

Origin: British & Japanese
Period: Early / Mid Twentieth Century
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1930-60
Various measurements available on request

The mixed collection of clockwork toys with glass eyes to include a plush sky blue elephant, sand double humped camel, grey Japanese made bear and a prince charming waltzing with his princess.

The three animals walk with varying degrees of success, some lumber, others are daintier. The bear and camel we believe to be Japanese, and probably the elephant, whilst the prince charming is similar to that of (or indeed is) a Wells Brimtoy Cinderella Prince Charming model of the 1950s.

The toys have clearly been enjoyed and played with, and do show wear to that effect, one or two eyes are missing and the elephant is probably the most tired but the internal mechanisms are in operation. The key supplied is associated and has loss so it struggles to wind the toys. A new key would be recommended.

A delightful little clutch of clockwork toys, clearly well loved, they still have oodles of charm and remain evocative of the simple innocence of childhood.
