A Decorative Group of Eight c.1930s Painted Hospital Ward Signs

Origin: English
Period: Early/Mid Twentieth Century
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1930-45
Each: 14” x 3.5”

The black and cream hand painted signs on hardboard, for ‘Drugs’ ‘Lotions’ ‘Lotion Bowls’ ‘Specimens’ ‘Bed Linen’ ‘Medicines’ ‘Bandages’ and ‘Dressings’, each surviving from an English hospital ward from the second quarter of the twentieth century.

The signs each have some attractive wear to the paintwork, with a few small chips. There are small brass hangars to the reverse of each for wall mounting.

These signs would have been positioned above the relevant drawer in a large bank of drawers in the hospital ward or storerooms.

The perfect prescription for the medicinal minded.
