A Decorative Pair of c.1900 Italian School Oil on Boards of Female Beauties

SOLD
Origin: Italian
Period: Late Nineteenth/Early Twentieth Century
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1900
The Wholes in Frames: 17.25 x 11.75 inches

The Italian school classical female studies of two nude beauties, each partially concealed with flowing silks, one holding a dressing mirror aloft and the other with a chalice, each presented in the original reeded ebonised frames with gilt slips, and painted in oils on board and both being signed with initial ‘FB’, surviving from the zeniths of nineteenth century Italy.

Both pictures are in relatively good condition with very minor losses, one with a slightly larger patch of wear to the lower right corner. There are a handful of light abrasion marks to the surfaces of each work and some small amount of chipping to each frame. We are unsure as to who the artist is but the initials are quite clearly ‘FB’ to each.

Scintillatingly symmetrical, beautifully balanced and wonderfully striking.
