A Good Soft Cotton Vintage Printed Flag of New Zealand

SOLD

Origin: British
Period: Early/Mid Twentieth Century
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1920-40
Height: 17 inches
Width: 34 inches

The printed flag of New Zealand in soft thin cotton is in worn but sound order with a lovely consistent gentle fade across the textile with the words ‘British Made’ printed to the fabric. There is some a smattering of white stain to below the Union Jack which may or may not be able to be removed.

The flag of New Zealand was introduced in 1869 and adopted as the national flag in 1902. It is a defaced British blue ensign, with the Union Jack, in the top left hand corner, and four red stars with white borders to the right. The Union Jack symbolises New Zealand's Commonwealth heritage. The stars represent the Southern Cross and have five points, all of the same size.

Not so many antique flags from New Zealand arise for sale so this is a good opportunity to acquire one that has real age to it.
