A wonderfully creative adaptation is this silver photo frame originally made as a desk top calendar by W J Myatt & Co in 1931, at the latter end of the Art Deco period. The original glass front and knobs with which the dates would have been changed are all present.

The sloped face and painted angular base gives the piece a truly Art Deco appearance, and one that is further heightened by the well-defined rectangular silver frame which is clearly hallmarked. The hinged hatch to the rear is kept shut by two small catches.

As to when it was converted, it is difficult to say, but what is certain is this frame is a delightfully smart and amusing conception.
