Period: Late Victorian
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1880
Heights: 42.25”
The Bases: 12” square
The Tops: 7.25” display platforms to 10” the wholes
The late Victorian period ebonised sculpture or torchère stand columns having stepped square platform tops on well-turned baluster tapering columns to turned circular lowers and then to square plinth bases surviving from the last quarter of nineteenth century England.
The stands are in very good condition for their age. There are the expected areas of wear to the ebonised finishes at the extremities, one bases with some tarnishing, the pair with no losses and both standing sturdy and straight.
Examples like this are quite commonly ebonised from this period as part of the wave of the aesthetic movement. These are particularly well-made pieces and it is nice to find a pair rather than a single.
A perfect pair of foils for that perfect pair of objects.
