A Stunning Vintage Gilt Metal, Paste Stone & Faux Pearl Wedding Headdress Bandeau

SOLD

Origin: English
Period: Mid Twentieth Century
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1940
Length: 16 inches (end to end)
Width: 6 inches (at widest point)

The gem set bandeau having white paste stones and faux pearls amongst foliate decoration over a gilt metal band lined and tied with white bonnet lace.

There are only two stones lacking, one being a pearl and one paste. The whole has some wear to the gilding and could be cleaned if so desired though is structurally sound with the original lace tie and the band stretches and bends well enough, staying pliable and thus comfortable.

Through the centuries, brides have always worn some form of headdress during the wedding ceremony and during World War I, tiaras began to be replaced by aigrettes and bandeaux such as this.

This is simply a gorgeous example of vintage costume jewellery, providing the eventual owner not just a unique and special wedding accessory, but also a cherished heirloom.
