Finely cast in lead, and now with a beautiful weathered patination, the underside with iron fixing point, showing a young, mischievous boy in the throes of undressing himself; presumably after a long and arduous day at school.
This wonderful piece would have most likely been a standalone feature from a fountain or would have stood via the fixing point on a marble or stone pedestal forming a larger garden ornament.
The marked expression on the boys face as he grapples with his troublesome sock is one of utmost concentration, frustration and impatience, yet remains utterly charming.
This is a superbly intricate and enchanting example of early twentieth century garden sculpture, suitable for those who delight in art that not only bears real quality but also the ability to make even the most stonehearted oaf break into an affectionate smile.
