A Decorative 20thC Portrait Studio Plaster Bust of a Young Boy

SOLD
Origin: British
Period: Mid Twentieth Century
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1940-60
Height: 14.5 inches
Width: 11 inches
Depth: 6 inches

The studio portrait modelled head in thick composition plaster of a young boy with flowing locks and loose shirt, realistic yet free and relaxed in its implementation, survives from the middle of the twentieth century and is indistinctly signed.

The condition of the bust is good with no noticeable chips or cracks and no areas of loss aside from the usual suspect, the point of the nose. There is an all-over weathering to the piece being consistent with age, the finish worn in the extremities. The signature is present to the rear but it proves very hard to decipher.

Remember by Christina Rossetti

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
