The well-sized heavy quality gilt gesso oval wall mirror having a sectional frame with gadrooned and floral decoration and original plate survives from the late nineteenth to early twentieth centuries.

The mirror proves to be in relatively good and totally original condition. There are four sections of loss to the ornamental floral motifs but the whole is in very sound and stable order, including the pine back boarding which is stamped “7 D” and the original plate glass is clear and in superb fettle with one or two spots, ready to hang, currently in portrait position. It has also, at some stage, been hung in landscape position.

Sectional mirrors such as these take their design from Irish examples which are highly prized and this piece was made with the best materials at the time.

A striking addition to any wall worth its salt.
