A Good George III Period Mahogany Side Chair c.1800

The elegant Georgian mahogany side or dining chair having with tapering pilasters, bridged by two co-joined guilloche decorated splats, on turned tapering legs to a canework seat, and surviving from the first decade of nineteenth century England.
The chair is in good original condition with all of its components surviving with two large strapwork plates to strengthen the underside. There has been a repair to one front leg and the canework has been applied recently. A cherished chair evidently.
This chair is similar to a design made by William Blackburn who was an associate of Gillows. Although working independently of Gillows, the Blackburns purchased wood, brass furniture and silver furniture for knife cases, and had their glasses silvered by the firm. They paid cash as opposed to settling their account by labour. A longcase clock signed on the dial 'William Blackburne Lancaster’ has been recorded.
Quite a scarce chair design wise and a very elegant one that is somehow decidedly contemporary as well as being utterly Georgian.
