The four colour Pelas, having a repeating lozenge motif border with ruled inset border, the central field populated by an all over tarantula pattern. The feel is geometric, and the effect is a rug that could be placed well in either a traditional or contemporary setting.

Mostly from the Yazd region, Pelas is essentially a special kilim sackcloth which are used as prayer rugs and bride carpets. Mat like, Pelas are made by crossing the colorful wool fibers from the warp horizontally and then combing it into the ground, so the sackcloth is always horizontal and colorful.

In Yazd, carpet weaving started in the 19th century, but it was during World War II, that Yazd rugs became known in Western countries.

A hardwearing, inexpensive and attractive vintage rug.
