The eighteenth-century oil on thick panel, depicting an English rural scene, with a large oak tree to the centre, and a lake beyond, with rolling hills, to a group of cattle and sheep grazing in the foreground, the whole beautifully aged and remaining unrestored and uncleaned from Georgian period England.

The painting is in un-cleaned condition and remains unframed. The overall condition is wonderfully original with small chips to the paint and several larger ones around the edges.  There are partial splits to the wood and an attractive crackling to the surface with areas of residue.

This picture is certainly well painted, by a good hand, and the panel is unusually thick. The colours have taken on a beautifully aged tone and it has a real presence.

So very evocative of the green and pleasant land.
