SOLD
Origin: French
Period: 3rd Republic
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1890-1900
Height: 34.5” or 17” at seat
Width: 55”
Depth: 29”
The Victorian period two-seater sofa or settee having the original upholstered carpet moquette velour in a cream, gold and red Aubusson type design, the whole with sloped arms with pom-pom ends and rope piping, to turned front oak legs and castors to rear sabre legs, the whole with a latticed tasselled lower and surviving from the zeniths of nineteenth century France.
In fair condition, the sofa has survived pretty well in its ripe old age though has obviously been well loved. There is wear to the upholstery, with some threadbare areas to the lower part of the seat and small losses to the lower tassels but overall, this striking sofa is in good sound condition. We had the frame rebuilt and tightened and the whole completely re-sprung so she is now comfortable and ready to go.
A scarce settee and one that is just as delightful to gaze upon as it is to sit in.
