Individual Spoon Length: 3.75 inches
The Case: 4.5 x 4.5 inches
Having fan shaped bowls to slender stems each terminating in a red or black painted wood finial in the shape of a card suit; Spades, Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs. The spoons are displayed complete in an attractive blue morocco case with an ivory satin lining and plush velvet interior.
Condition is very good, the silver is not over rubbed or tarnished and the morocco case remains in decent order. Marson & Jones Silversmiths were Birmingham makers between 1915 and 1937 and produced some very fine work within that relatively short space of time.
The term Art Deco encompasses the distinctive styles in art, architecture and design, and is typified by bright bold colours, and stylized designs derived from the onset of industrialism, as well as artistic movements such as modernism, cubism, and futurism. It is one of the best loved, most influential, instantly recognisable, international, and elegant of all artistic periods.
With the unusual and whimsical theme coupled with the spoons being complete in their original box, this desirable set is high-end art deco silverware and wouldn’t look out of place on the mad hatters dining table at afternoon tea.
