An Attractive Small Mid-Victorian Stained Pine Chest of Drawers c.1860-70

SOLD

Origin: English
Period: Mid / Late Nineteenth Century
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1860-70
Width: 28.5 inches
Height: 40.25 inches
Depth: 19.5 inches (with knobs)

The stained pine carcass with plinth top above three long and deep graduated drawers, having the original darkened knob handles, standing on turned bulbous peg feet survives in original condition from the mid Victorian period.

Being a barn find, the chest shows heaps of attractive wear and tear with scuffing commensurate with its age, the drawers all running smoothly and the carcass structurally sound. There have been several repairs to the carcass and feet so the piece is not for those who like their antiques in mint condition but rather those that tell a story. We believe the chest was formerly used as a tool chest.

Heavily evocative of its life thus far, this is a desirable chest in a desirable size.
