An Unusual Large c.1900-10 Framed Print of a Failed Marriage Proposal

Origin: English
Period: Late Victorian / Edwardian
Provenance: Unknown
Date: c.1900-1910
Width: 31”
Height: 24.5”

The rather unusual and ghostly framed and glazed antique print of good size, showing a lady and a man in a country house garden, possibly depicting unrequited love, a failed marriage proposal or a lovers tiff, the lady in a long lace gown looking away from the gentleman who is seated at a table and two ladder-back chairs with his head on his hand in contempt, the whole presented in its original ebonised frame and from the first decade of the twentieth century.

There is some discoloration and foxing to the print, please see the photographs for a visual reference. The reverse shows the original newspaper backing and it remains glazed.

Some further research may prove fruitful in establishing the exact history and content of this work.

A haunting and interesting print.
